Merchant Adventurers' Hall is a Grade I listed medieval guild hall, its distinctive timber-framed exterior tucked just off Fossgate in the heart of York. Built by the city's guild of merchants over 600 years ago, it remains one of the most complete surviving buildings of its kind, and it's still very much a living, working hall rather than a museum piece.
Inside, the Great Hall's soaring timber roof and rows of tall windows give ceremonies real theatre — guests seated along the length of the hall, aisle down the middle, with the couple exchanging vows beneath centuries-old beams.
The hall's history is woven into every corner — portraits, coats of arms and original features line the walls, giving quieter moments like the register signing a wonderfully atmospheric backdrop.
